Product details
Omega Electronic f300Hz De Ville Chronometer | Tuning Fork | Linen Dial | Date | 1970s
Description
The Omega f300Hz is one of the most fascinating chapters in watchmaking history. Before quartz took over completely, tuning fork technology represented the cutting edge of timekeeping. The f300Hz vibrates at 300 cycles per second, delivering accuracy that rivalled early quartz while maintaining a sweeping seconds hand that moves smoothly like a mechanical watch.
This De Ville Chronometer version features a silver linen/crosshatch textured dial that is the signature of the f300Hz line. The texture catches light differently depending on the angle, giving the dial a dimensional quality that flat dials lack. The Omega logo appears in red at 9 o'clock alongside "OMEGA ELECTRONIC f 300Hz" stacked text. On the right side, "VILLE CHRONOMETER" text confirms both the De Ville lineage and the chronometer certification. Date at 3 o'clock with applied steel stick indices completing the layout.
The steel round case with straight lugs houses the Cal. 1250 tuning fork movement. On a blue croc-embossed leather strap that complements the cool silver dial tones. The crystal shows some light marks consistent with age, and the dial has minor age spotting that adds vintage character without affecting legibility.

Historical Significance
The f300Hz represents Omega's answer to the emerging quartz technology of the early 1970s. Rather than jumping straight to quartz, Omega developed tuning fork technology as an intermediate step. The tuning fork vibrates at 300Hz, producing a distinctive hum. The Cal. 1250 was chronometer-certified, meeting the strictest accuracy standards. Production was brief as quartz quickly overtook tuning fork movements, making these watches snapshots of a pivotal moment in horological history.
A rare piece of transitional watchmaking technology. The f300Hz sits at the crossroads of mechanical and electronic horology, and examples in this condition are becoming genuinely scarce.
